In a historic feat made by Shamcey Supsup, fourth placer at the recently concluded 60th edition of the Miss Universe pageant, she earns a back-to-back runner-up post with last year's Miss Philippines, Maria Venus Raj, sealing for the country its beauty powerhouse tag in Asia.
"We are back in the game," Stella Marquez de Araneta, Chairperson of the Bb Pilipinas Charities Inc, would quip at the Coronation Ball.
Supsup landed 3rd runner-up, a notch higher than the big triumph of Venus Raj last year as 4th runner-up in the same pageant.
Shamcey gave a sterling and flawless performance that most pageant fans believed that she should have won the title, and not Leila Lopes of Angola. When asked during the Question-and-Answer portion, Shamcey replied without hesitation and with much conviction.
Vivica A. Fox: Would you change your religious beliefs to marry the person you love? Why or why not?
Shamcey Supsup: If I would have to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love. Because the first person that I love is God, who created me. I have my faith and my principles, and this is what makes me who I am. If the person loves me, he should love my God, too.
Misses Ukraine, Brazil and China rounded up the Top 5. Ms Lea Salonga sat as one of the judges and asked the question that sealed the win for Ms Angola.
Congratulations, Shamcey Supsup! The entire country is proud of you. I am prouder being your fellow Isko and fellow Mindanaoan. : )
